How are your child’s writing skills coming along? For some beginning writers, putting pencil to paper can be a challenge. It helps to begin with simple words s/he sees and understands before stringing those words into complete sentences.
Words Can Make Sentences: Lists, Labels & Love Notes as Writing Literacy Tools is an effective, fun way to engage your child in the writing world. Several of these activities are probably being offered in his/her classroom’s Writing Center in a similar format. So, you’ll want to include them in your Writing Nook at home as a confidence-builder.

Tips & Ideas
Include all the Word Lists in the Manual as a reference guide for interactive learning between you & your child. You may, also, want to tab specific sheets for quicker access.
Review Sight/High Frequency Words before beginning a writing activity to help boost your child’s reading & writing confidence.
Create your own Lists with the Handwriting Paper template, such as Toys, Animals, Weather, Clothes, Foods, Family, etc. Encourage him/her to brainstorm some list categories with you.
Make Lists using the Pictures included in this Tool Kit, such as At The Park, In The Woods, Winter Weather, On the Farm, Pond Animals, etc.
Use the Word Labels when reading those wonderful wordless picture books. A story with sentences could be on your child’s writing horizon. When several sentences have been written, use it as a read-share opportunity during a family book club meeting.
Make multiple copies of the Love Note cards & put them in a box with envelopes. Be sure to include words & phrases in the box to promote independent writing. Your child will probably want to put some of her/his own card designs in the card box.
I hope you & yours enjoy this Literacy activity as much as I enjoyed creating it. I’d love to hear from you!
