A successful recipe for one of the most engaging reads for young children is: a large repetitive & predictable spoonful of rhythmic rhyming with sprinkles of humor & make~believe. You will need multiple copies of the favorites!
Dr. Seuss’ GREEN EGGS AND HAM, one of my son’s VERY favorites, was dished up into a gazillion reads! It was beyond repair….several times…That Sam I am!
Here is a very short list of this genre of books I selected for Beginning Reader. They range from very simplistic to a bit more sophisticated~ say, for ages 4-7 years old. Many of these I read with my First Graders, Second Graders and handed off to my Third Graders for their shared reading time with the younger grades.
